The trek route to Pikey peak is Off the Beaten trail and few travelers make their way to this trail than the other route in the Everest Region. Best season to travel Pikey Peak

Pikey peak is feasible in every season, however; the diverse season will offer you a different experience. There are four different seasons in a year in Nepal: Autumn, Spring, Summer, Monsoon, and Winter. Spring and Autumn Season are considered as the best season to trek in Nepal. It is better to travel in September – November, and March-May.

Autumn (September to November)

This season is classified as the best season of the year. However, you have to be cautious while trekking in September due to the light rainfall in the Everest region.

The temperature ranges between 9 -15 degrees during the daytime. You will feel the changing temperature as you climb to a higher altitude.

Spring Season (March to May)

This season is the second-best season to trek Pikey peak. This season nature will get back to alive and offer stunning views. You will walk through the colorful rhododendron forest.

This season the trail will be overcrowded and the tea house will become busy. The temperature ranges between 10-20 degrees during day time.

Winter (December to February) and Summer/Monsoon (June to August)

These seasons are considered as the offseason in the Everest region. Trekkers do not prefer winter and monsoon/summer season to trek Pikey peak so, these seasons are not popular as autumn and spring.

The temperature will drop below 0 degrees in the winter season. The trail will be isolated during this season, most of the tea houses remain closed. So, it will be difficult for you to find accommodation.

Monsoon/summer season, the Everest region faces as frequent rainfall. Due to the downpour, the trail will be wet and slippery. The trek will be challenging due to the extreme changing weather. Few trekkers make their way to pikey peak trail during winter and Summer/monsoon.

Itinerary

Day 1: Drive to Dhap from Kathmandu and trek to Japre (2920m 4-5 hours’ drive- 3-hour trek)
Day 2: Trek to Pikey peak base camp (3640m, 6-7 hours)
Day 3: Trek to Chaulakharka via Pikey Peak (1460m, 6-7 hour)
Day 4: Trek to Shivalaya (1770m, 7-8 hours)
Day 5: Drive to Kathmandu

Day 1: Drive to Dhap from Kathmandu and trek to Sigane or Japre (2920m 3 hours’ drive- 5-hour trek)

You will drive from Kathmandu to Dhap, early morning you will drive through the road beside Sunkoshi River and Okhaldhunga. A three-hour drive will take you to Dhap.
Your trek will begin from Dhap after a few hours hike to Singane/ Japre, you will feel the mountains coming into visible, the Number Himal section of the Himalayan Range.
Overnight at Singane/ Japre

Day 2: Trek to Pikey peak base camp (3640m, 6-7 hours)

From Japre, the route ascends to a grassy ridge at bhulbhule. The trail will split after Bhulbhule and you will turn right to Pikey peak. You will pass through Mani walls and yak herders' houses. You will follow the TalungDanda and beautiful forested trail, with colorful rhododendrons. You will reach the Pikey peak base camp within 2 hours after crossing the forest.
You will find only one lodge at 3640m. If the weather is clear you will ascent the summit at 4065m, you can enjoy the best sunrise view.

Day 3: Trek to Chaulakharka via Pikey Peak (1460m, 6-7 hour)

The route to the top of the pikey peak begins by following a gradual slope to the summit. You will start the trek before dawn to reach the top for a breathtaking sunrise view. You will also explore the views of Kanchenjunga and Annapurna.
You will drive back to the lodge for breakfast. You will start your descending trek through the beautiful trail with stunning mountains and pretty forest to Kosinasa which local people are now calling Lamane, 2872 m then you will follow the hillside Ghumba, ascending slightly up to 2980 meters. By Ghumba the route turns right and descends steeply through the forest down to Namkheli and LinkhuKhola at 1534m.
Overnight at Chaulakharka

Day 4: Trek to Shivalaya (1770m, 7-8 hours)

Today you will ascent 750m to Bhandar. The hike will be fairly steep up some time on a new track. You will stop for tea before climbing to Deurali.
The route ascends to the Deurali pass whooping 3700m. You will enjoy the view over the valley and stream back towards Pikey peak from the east side of the pass and you will see the village of Deurali on the west side. You will stop for a lunch break.
After lunch, the route descent steeply at first and then levels out to Shivalaya, a small village situated over the river.

Day 5: Drive to Kathmandu

You will say goodbye to the mountains and catch the bus to get back to Kathmandu. You will dive descending through the Tama Koshi before climbing to Charikot and finally to Mudu where it is all downhill to the Bhote Koshi around 3000m beneath.
You will drive following the Arniko highway, climbing to Dhulikhel, and then enter the Kathmandu valley by midafternoon.
Overnight in Kathmandu
